Huge congratulations to both Ryan and Nicola Kinnear who both achieved gold in the Scottish Schools Judo Competition held at Meadowbank at the weekend!

Nicola Kinnear 2D has retained the Scottish Schools Gold every year since Primary 5. In fact since September this year Nicola also won Silver at the British Championships, the Grangemouth Open and the Celtic Cup International. I think you will agree these are truly remarkable achievements.

As this is possibly Ryan's last year at LHS this is perhaps his last Scottish Schools tournament. However to bow out as Scottish Schools champion is credit to him.

Swimming

Congratulations to Andrea Sheen and Alexandra Anderson who were our sole representatives at the Edinburgh Schools Swimming Finals last week. They were up against pretty stiff competition – mostly from the private sector and put in two great performances gaining medals along the way.

Andrea went into the 100m Freestyle in 4th position and ended up in third winning bronze – beating the girl into fourth by 6/100ths of a second in a time of 1.09.86! A great achievement for Andrea. Alexandra also took the bronze in the gruelling 100m Butterfly in a time of 1.31.58 – a whole two seconds ahead of the fourth placed swimmer! This is doubly amazing as Alex hasn’t been training for quite some time and came out of semi-retirement just for this competition!!
