Celebrating Success: Andrea Sheen

Andrea has made it to the finals of the Scottish Schools Swimming Championships. This is a great achievement for her and for LHS! These take place at Tollcross pool, Glasgow on Saturday 26 January starting at about 8:30 (I think) I’ll be there in an official capacity as a Swimming Technical Official, but some other LHS supporters would be welcome!
Also, Andrea represents Warrender tomorrow and Sunday at the Scottish Nationals also in Tollcross. I’ll be there again as an STO and will let you know how she got on. Please congratulate her when you see her. I think she might be there today but not sure when her events are.

Sad news (Letter issued to all pupils on Tuesday 8 January 2008)

Funeral Arrangements for Wednesday 9 January 2008

Mr Pretswell (CDT Department) passed away on Saturday 29 December. Mrs Reid (Support for Learning Department) passed away on Thursday 20 December. Mrs Reid’s funeral took place during the holidays.

The funeral service for Mr Pretswell will take place at Mortonhall Crematorium Main Chapel on Wednesday 9 January at 1 pm. At the end of the service a collection will be taken for the British Heart Foundation.

In order to allow staff and pupils to attend the funeral service our lunch time will be extended from 12.30 pm until 2 pm. Pupils should go to their normal class for 2 pm. Throughout this time, the school will remain open so that pupils can have access to areas of the school that are dry and warm. Staff not attending the funeral will be assisting in general supervision around the school.

Given the large numbers that are likely to attend I would wish to discourage pupils in years S1 to S4 from attending the funeral service at Mortonhall. As a gesture of support to the family I would respectfully request that those in years S1 to S4 who wish to attend should be accompanied by an adult. I would advise that pupils attending should be dressed appropriately, e.g. school uniform.

Books of remembrance have been placed in the school library for pupils and staff to sign. On Friday of this week all pupils at Liberton High School will be given the opportunity to attend commemorative assemblies to acknowledge and celebrate the significant and outstanding contributions made by both Mrs Reid and Mr Pretswell to the education of so many youngsters through the years.

On behalf of all staff I take this opportunity of thanking you for your support and understanding at this difficult time.

Yours sincerely,

Donald J Macdonald (Headteacher)
